With 90% of their grapes grown on the grounds, the quality of their wines pushes the boundaries of fine winemaking. With a myriad of awards in 2007 alone, it is no wonder so many choose to visit Boeger Winery in Placerville. One of Placerville’s newest vineyards, Holly’s Hill Vineyards, produces some of the finest Rhone varieties of wines available. With 360 degrees of exposure on its circular hill these vineyards get all the nutrients the Northern California sun has to offer. Visit their vineyard open daily 10 am to 5 pm for a wine tasting experience unlike any other. In Somerset there are no shortages of wineries either. The Fleur de Lys Winery, Cantiga Wineworks, and Busby Cellars, are just a few of the incredible wineries that call Somerset home. As a family-operated winery, Cantiga Wineworks uses traditional winemaking methods to produce their award winning varieties of Chardonnay, Cabernet, Zinfandel, and Shiraz. Visit their tasting rooms any day or book a private luncheon for a birthday, anniversary or other special event.
While Placerville, Somerset and Plymouth are home to some of NorCal’s greatest wineries these are not the only areas to find some of Northern California’s most coveted vineyards. Domain Becquet Winery, located 2.5 miles towards the east of Valley Springs on highway 12 is a premier Northern California attraction. Free wine tasting is offered Wednesday through Sunday from 11 in the morning to 5 in the evening. It accommodates wedding parties, family celebrations and corporate groups on prior reservation. The Double Oak Vineyards and Winery is driven by the love of the land and the grapes and its commitment is for creating the finest quality wine. The tasting room is thrown open to guests for 6 hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday. Prior appointments need to be made. The Indian Springs Vineyards presents the lustrous variety and absolute excellence of mountain-grown wines. The tasting room that is open daily is located at Broad Street in the historic downtown of Nevada city. The Iron Mountain Vineyard is another eminent Northern California attraction. It produces extraordinary wines that have won a number of awards. The wines are manufactured from the best quality fruit that grows in Nevada country and the surrounding wine-grape growing areas.
The Nevada City winery presents an unsurpassed Northern California wine tasting experience. Located in downtown Nevada City, the wines have won several “Best of Sierra Foothill” awards. The specialty is its antique corkscrew collection. Tours are conducted on Saturdays.
The Nevada County Winery Association incorporates ten wineries. These produce over a dozen varietals and provide an outstanding Northern California entertainment in the form of superior wine tasting. The Lucchesi Vineyards and Winery provide world-class limited-production wines that enrich the experience of this Northern California recreation.
The Sierra Knolls Vineyards and Winery are located at the south of Grass Valley, close to the Lake of the Pines. The characteristic wines include handcrafted Sauvignon, Estate Zinfandel, Estate Merlot, Marsanne, Rousanne, Viognier and Chardonnay. The wines can be tasted on most weekends. To enjoy this Northern California entertainment on weekdays, appointments should be made beforehand. The Sierra Star Vineyard and Winery is open daily between 12 noon and 5:00 p.m. It is located in the historic Grass Valley. Every year it produces around 1500 handcrafted cases. The wines are created from the fruits that grow in the mountains. Specialities include the Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Merlot and the likes. The exceptional Northern California entertainment of wine tasting is provided by the Truckee River Winery – the highest and the coldest winery in the U. S. The special flavors that are crafted include the Pinot Noir, the Zinfandel, The Sauvignon Bland and the Merlot. Wine tasting is offered by appointment.
